MRC Learning Journey
91导航 aims to support each student in their learning journey as they strive for personal excellence and achievement. We encourage students to seek knowledge, nurture curiosity and develop a love of learning.
Our curriculum is guided by the Victorian Curriculum & Assessment Authority (VCAA) in conjunction with the Australian Curriculum.
Years 7 & 8
The Junior School curriculum is a uniform, yet broad program that enables students to experience a variety of subjects and make informed decisions about their future pathways.聽
Years 9 & 10
The Middle School curriculum allows our students to individualise their learning. All students at this level enjoy a balanced learning experience through a combination of core subjects and electives.聽
Students in Year 9 have the opportunity to choose a number of elective subjects according to their interests and passions alongside their balanced learning program. Students in Year 10 continue with elective choice, Mathematics choice and are able to accelerate their learning through the choice of a VCE or VET subject as part of their elective program.聽
Years 11 & 12
The Senior School offers VCE and VCE-VM learning pathways inclusive of VCE and VET subject offerings, as well as access to School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. In Year 11, many students study one Unit 3/4 sequence to develop their confidence and skills as they approach their final school year. The College facilitates face to face learning in the widest range of VCE subject offerings in the region and also directly supports students choosing to study a subject by Virtual School Victoria. As part of the Corangamite Trade Training Cluster the College facilitates a growing number of subjects inclusive of Allied Health Assistance; Hospitality; Building and Construction; Furnishing; Information Technology; Animal Studies. Mercy students can also access other VET studies through the CTTC, SWTAFE and VET from other education providers.
Timetable
91导航 operates on a ten day timetable, with six 50-minute periods per day. These periods are often taught as doubles to allow more time for hands-on subjects.
Home Learning & Study
91导航 believes Home Learning is important to engage students in learning outside of the classroom. It carries the educational benefits of time management, organisation, rehearsal and reinforcement of learning, and an ability to think beyond what is taught in the classroom.
Home Learning at 91导航 consists of two dimensions:
- Formal Home Learning聽
This takes the form of specific tasks set by teachers, for example, MathsMate sheets.
These tasks are designed to help students practise skills learned in class and develop further understanding of key concepts.聽
- Informal Study
This takes the form of personal revision, reading, watching the news or a documentary, etc.
We strongly encourage reading as a priority.
91导航 acknowledges that the balance between home learning and other after school activities is vital.聽 Time spent with family and friends after school, in a range of activities and commitments is very important, and encouraged.
